All Maryland residents living in Maryland Legislative District 27B attending a college, university, trade school or equivalent in the State of Maryland are eligible for the House of Delegates Scholarship. Current high school seniors and full-time

or part-time, degree-seeking undergraduate, graduate students, and students attending a private career school may apply.

Important Application Information

  • Application Requirements
    Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Enroll at a two-year or four-year Maryland college or university as a full-time (12+ credits per semester) or part-time (6-11 credits per semester) Be a degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate student, or attend certain private career schools Be a resident of District 27B Complete Essay 1 & Essay 2 Attachment of your Resume and Unofficial Transcript Finish application by Sept 4th, 2024 at 11:59 PM.
  • Essay Questions
    ESSAY TOPIC #1: Describe your educational and cultural background. Additionally, why do you deserve this scholarship? (750 Words) ESSAY TOPIC #2: In recent years, we have seen a dramatic increase in school shootings. Many possible causes have been suggested, and many solutions have been proposed. Which one resonates most with you? How safe do you feel at school? What safety measures are in place, and how effective are they? What changes in school policy or legislation would you like to see, and why? (1000 Words) Three citations are needed for the second essay submission.
  • How To Apply
    All applications will be submitted through this form Please be sure to fully complete your application through this form Applications sent via email, mail, or other means will not be considered.
  • Application Deadline
    Complete and submit the 2024-2025 Del. Jeffrie Long Scholarship Application by May 13th, 2024, at 11:59 PM. Applications submitted after this date will not be considered!
  • Eligible Majors
    All majors are eligible for scholarships. Students with a “unique major” may be eligible for a scholarship to an out-of-state school, pending approval by the Maryland Higher Education Commission. Majors are considered to be unique when they are not offered at any Maryland university or college. To verify their unique major status, students must complete the Unique Major Application and submit it to the Higher Education Commission with the required documentation.
  • Award Amount
    The minimum annual award is $1,000 and may be held with all State awards. The total dollar amount of all State awards may not exceed your cost of attendance as determined by your school’s financial aid office. Funds may not be available to award all eligible students. Awards are not automatically renewed. You must re-apply each year to this scholarship
