DISTRICT 27B SCHOLARSHIP
All Maryland residents living in Maryland Legislative District 27B attending a college, university, trade school or equivalent in the State of Maryland are eligible for the House of Delegates Scholarship. Current high school seniors and full-time
or part-time, degree-seeking undergraduate, graduate students, and students attending a private career school may apply.

Important Application Information
• Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa)(FAFSA)
• Enroll at a two-year or four-year Maryland college or university as a full-time (12+ credits per semester) or part-time (6-11 credits per semester)
• Be a degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate student, or attend certain private career schools
• Be a resident of District 27B
• Complete Essay 1 & Essay 2
• Attachment of your Resume and Unofficial Transcript
• Finish application by May 12th, 2025 at 11:59 PM.
• ESSAY TOPIC #1: How have you contributed to your community, campus, or workplace in a meaningful way? Describe the issue or need you sought to address, the actions you took, and the impact of your efforts. What did you learn from this experience, and how has it influenced your educational path, career goals, or commitment to service? How would receiving the House of Delegates Scholarship support your continued education and ability to make a positive impact? (750 Words)
• ESSAY TOPIC #2: What Maryland-specific or national issue do you believe most significantly affects residents today, and why is it important to you? Who is most impacted by this issue, and what role should local or federal governments play in addressing it? Propose a realistic and thoughtful solution that accounts for differing perspectives and practical constraints. How can collaboration among lawmakers, community leaders, and key stakeholders help achieve meaningful and lasting change? (1000 Words)
• Three citations are needed for the second essay submission.

• Applications sent via email, mail, or other means will not be considered.
• All majors are eligible for scholarships.
• Students with a “unique major” may be eligible for a scholarship to an out-of-state school, pending approval by the Maryland Higher Education Commission.
• Majors are considered to be unique when they are not offered at any Maryland university or college.
• To verify their unique major status, students must complete the Unique Major Application (http://www.mhec.state.md.us/financialaid/Unique%20Major%20Application%2003202013%202.pdf)and submit it to the Higher Education Commission with the required documentation.
• The minimum annual award is $1,000 and may be held with all State awards.
• The total dollar amount of all State awards may not exceed your cost of attendance as determined by your school’s financial aid office.
• Funds may not be available to award all eligible students.
• Awards are not automatically renewed. You must re-apply each year to this scholarship
