Legislative Update Week 4

Dear Friends, It's an honor to come back for our weekly recap of week 4 of the 445th legislative Session in Maryland; we only have 65 days left, and I'm happy to share with you the fantastic work we have been doing week by week to benefit the constituents of Calvert & Prince George's Counties.

YOU'RE CORDIALLY INVITED

Your District 27 Team invites you to join us in Annapolis for District Night on Monday, March 6, 2023 from 6:00 p.m -8:00 p.m. at the Governor Calvert House. This will be an opportunity for you to see us at work on your behalf in Annapolis. There will be food, information, opportunities for networking, and you never know who you may run into.

Tuesday

We started with one of my favorite advocacy organizations, Mom's Demand Action, and constituents from the 27th Legislative District. My district mate from 27A, Delegate Kevin M. Harris, and I spoke to the group of activists and listened to their thoughts, & concerns to push Maryland to be a safe state and curb the gun violence we see in our schools.

Wednesday

We kicked off Black History Month with a bang. Every day this month, we'll be acknowledging Black History figures from all over Southern Maryland and telling their stories that may never be told in history books.

Later that day was the Governor's first State of the State Address, and how befitting that Maryland's first black Governor would deliver his first address on the first day of Black History Month.

(Fun Fact: Maryland has the largest legislative black caucus in the nation)

Gov. Moore outlined his vision for Maryland's future, which you can find here: MGA.I couldn't be prouder to be in unison with the Administration's vision to lead Maryland into the future and leave no one behind. You can watch the address here: STATE OFTHE STATE.

Friday

I was delighted to be able to give the daily black history moment speech and highlight three individuals that have impacted the lives of Southern Marylanders as well as my own; Bishop John Jacob Aster Green, Gladys Kent Evans, and Benjamin James Hawkins. You can watch the speech here: SPEECH

This week, I will testify at my first bill hearings for legislation that I am sponsoring. I look forward to contacting you with a favorable report.

A full comprehensive list of all the legislation I am sponsoring and co-sponsoring can be found here. Please continue to check back frequently as the list is updated. If you have any questions regarding legislation, please do not hesitate to contact my office.
